Considering the lifelong learning activities, it is very important to manage individual differences in the right way. These individual differences show themselves in the office, in the field; in the technical and behavioural efficiencies for the corporate life. In order for every efficiency to be developed, they need to be fed and monitored through various sources.
At this point, learning design becomes involved for the individualized experience design. It is defined as the process of finding the information and skills that will be gained interesting by the learner and the design of experiences which enable effective learning. In the teaching design, ADDIE model is used widely and this model consists of stages such as analysis, design, development, practice and evaluation.
Agile Learning Cycle
Benefiting from ADDIE, Iterative Design, SAM (Successive Approximation Model) and Rapid Design approaches, Tofaş Akademi formed its agile teaching design approach in time so as to develop technical and behavioural efficiencies of Tofaş employees.
Tofaş Akademi started to implement “Agile Content Development Strategy” in order to shorten the process of designing a new learning module.
For this purpose, Tofaş’s process of Agile Content Development was formed. This process is a hybrid process which make use of “design thought,” “4-MAT model (Bernice McCarthy, 1980)” and “agile principles.”
With this new method, the duration of learning designing decreased from 180 days to 31 days.
We use learning canvas developed by us in order to integrate 4 Mat method into our teaching design. Canvas has 4 learning strategies area for each learning target, thus we guarantee to learn by using each area. We also use various learning activities and strategies so as to increase the attention of our participants. With this method, there is an opportunity to provide input for all the learning styles.
The new process aims for the subject matter experts to carry out learning designs faster and more efficiently by working harder and without losing their focus. It was designed as 2 “Learning Design Camp” (full time workshop study) based on the principles of “Lean Startup” and “Agile Project Management.” Learning designer meets with subject matter experts before writing down the raw content at the camp efficiently in a shorter time.
Instructional Design Camp
In the context of each learning target, experience design is conducted in order for the behavioural change determined in our participants to occur. At this stage, the learning solution which will meet the need sometimes can be a classroom instruction, workshop, e-learning, video learning, virtual class or a co-ed which includes all.
15 days before the camp day, subject matter experts write raw information down into the Wiki platform which is Tofaş Corporate Information Store.
After 5 days at the camp, new design modules are tested with a pilot scheme in order to control the learning efficiency.
Assessment and Evaluation
In order to guarantee the success of our instructions and target audience, 5-staged evaluation model based on Kirk Patrick and developed by Jack Philips is used.
- Reaction: The satisfaction of the participants is assessed with a survey at the end of the learning.
- Learning: learning level is determined with the pre-post test application.
- Application and Implementation: Behaviour change is observed.
- Impact: The impact of behavioural change on work results is assessed.
- ROI – Return On Investment: The contribution of the learning investment based on ROI calculation formula of ROI institution to the work results is calculated. For this, the formula below is used.
